Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre

Clubs and Groups Directory

Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre is home to a number of different local clubs and groups. If you would like further information or are interested in joining one of them, then why not contact them directly. Clubs listed below.

Bolton United Harriers

Bolton United Harriers & Athletic Club is the town’s oldest running club and one of the North West’s longest established sporting organisations. As we like to say, we’ve been “Running, jumping and throwing since 1908”, when the Club was founded.

The Club is nationally ranked, with teams and individuals competing at the highest level. There is a long history of success, particularly in road-running and cross country, but also Track & Field’s short sprints, High Jump and Discus.

We are based at Leverhulme Park Athletics Track and Stadium off Long Lane, 1 mile east of Bolton town centre. It was completely redeveloped in 2005 to offer great indoor training facilities in addition to the outdoor track. We make great use of the setting within the picturesque Leverhulme Park, both for training and our hosted races and events.

Club meeting nights are principally Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the year, whatever the weather! Training starts at 7.00pm and generally finishes 8.15pm-8.30pm, though some Junior age-groups (particularly under-11s) meet from 6.30pm and finish earlier. Some Track & Field groups also hold Saturday and Sunday morning sessions, depending on the season or upcoming competitions.

Our friendly atmosphere and welcoming Front Desk Team will introduce you to the most appropriate training group. All coaching is to a professional standard with UKA-qualified personnel and is available to all members. There IS a group for ALL ages (6 – 106!), ALL abilities and ALL disciplines! These include all Track & Field events and all endurance-based running (road-racing and jogging, cross country), with a growing interest in Fell Running.

Beginners, young and old, are catered for alongside more experienced athletes. A strong group of ‘Veterans’, bolstered by former International Champions, offer a great sense of ‘We can still mix with the best’, not to mention their experience. These all complement our aim of developing future talent through our Junior system.

Membership as of January 2015 numbers approximately 500, with international athletes training alongside social runners and newcomers. With a great team mentality, ethos of encouragement and enjoyment, Bolton United Harriers & AC can provide you the opportunity to achieve your goals through training and competition at whatever level you choose.

We invite you to look around our website, get a feel for us, our history and what we offer. We hope to see you ‘down the track’ soon!

Team Deane

Team Deane is an up and coming triathlon club based in Bolton. The club has grown from strength to strength over the past few years.  It all started when 3 guys Chris Brady, Ben Hardman and Russell Brooks decided to do an Ironman, the team was formed and the community came out in mass to support for these 3 guys. From then on a community was inspired and Team Deane was born. Over the months and years that have followed more and more people have been inspired to get fit and give triathlon a go.

The club is friendly with a no egos mantra. Everyone is welcome and no matter what your ability no one gets left behind. Our coaches are there to help you at the start of your training and getting to the start line of your first event whether that be a 5k or a full Ironman.

We have safe, fun lessons to get your children active whilst working to develop positive skills & traits that they can use every day. We can help your children develop social & team working skills & encourage self-discipline & confidence.

Students follow a programme designed with all round development in mind.

This programme covers:
• Age-appropriate self defence and safety awareness.
• Fun workouts to keep motivation and enjoyment levels high.
• Practice of simple calming breathing techniques and relaxations.

Students progress through the grading and belt system. This provides them with achievable, personal goals that they can work towards step by step. The belts act as a great incentive for children to improve and also help keep everyone’s motivation high.
Children soon learn that the cost of success is simply their own time and effort used in each lesson. Children are encouraged to listen, take part and behave appropriately as well as getting plenty of exercise through fun workouts.

We think this creates a good balance where children are encouraged to improve themselves through their own efforts, whilst not becoming overly competitive. Often children who have not enjoyed other sports thrive in Taekwon-Do thanks to this approach.
