New Horwich Leisure Centre Development

We’re starting to build a brand new state-of-the-art leisure centre on the current Horwich Leisure Centre’s multi-storey car park footprint which will open in Autumn 2017.

Bolton Community Leisure Trust and Bolton Council are jointly funding the scheme to encourage more people to be more active and live longer healthier and happier lives.

The first stage of the development starts 20th June 2016 and lasts eight weeks.

This enables the site to be turned into a safe and secure workplace with perimeter fences and access roads for construction vehicles that helps minimise disruption to neighbouring areas whilst the existing multi storey car park is demolished.

Prior to the demolition of the multi-storey car park 51 temporary car park spaces will be created within the grounds, including disabled parking to the front of the existing centre.

The current centre will remain open until the new leisure centre is ready. After which the old centre will be demolished to make way for a modern Health Hub housing multiple GP surgeries and localised health services.

The fantastic new centre includes a 25-metre six-lane pool, a separate training pool, a 100-station fitness suite, spin and dance studios, a four-court sports hall, changing facilities and new car parking.

The modern facilities will encourage more people to take up sports and leisure and help build better links with schools and clubs which will help promote healthier habits and reduce anti-social behaviour.

Open Evening

As with any major scheme there will be ongoing communication and consultation with all stakeholders in order to keep them up-to-date as the development progresses.

We are holding another Open Evening at 5-7pm, 16 June 2016 at Horwich Leisure Centre so customers and residents can find out more about the programme for development and view the approved plans. Officers from the Council and Bolton Community Leisure Trust together with representatives from Willmott Dixon will be present to answer any questions.

The approved plans

Site plans were drawn by GT Architects and Wilmott Dixon have been appointed as developers of the site.

Throughout the build there will be opportunities for local trades / contractors to bid for programmes of work.

Businesses wanting to know more about the opportunities are invited to a Meet the Buyer event on 17th June 2016 which will be held at the Bolton, Bury and Wigan Construction Club at the DW Stadium.

Trees that are to be retained will have fencing around them during works to protect their health and appearance.

Once the scheme is completed new trees and shrubs will be planted as part of the landscaping.
